Sunday Morning
We gather on Sunday to celebrate Holy Eucharist. Eucharist is an ancient word that means "thanksgiving." It is the sacrament commanded by Christ for the continual remembrance of his life, death, and resurrection, until his coming again. We believe that the bread and wine in Eucharist are the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace given to Christ's people and received by faith. All who hunger for Jesus Christ and seek and encounter with our Risen Lord are welcome to receive Holy Communion at St. John's.
From September through May, our principal worship service is at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. It uses contemporary language and follows Rite II of the Book of Common Prayer. Music and hymn singing are a part of this service. Children come up from Church School for Communion. While children are always welcome in worship, the last Sunday of the month is particularly inviting for them as it includes a children's sermon, children's song, and an up-close view of communion. On these Sundays the students stay in worship for the entire service. Also September through May*, a service using traditional language takes place on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. It follows Rite I of the Book of Common Prayer. Music is not normally an element of this service. (Please note: we are not having the 8am service at the present time - please check back to our website for updates.)
From July through August this year, there is one service at 9:00am. The service is Rite II and incorporates music, but no choir.
Choir and Music
Music is an integral part of the 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning Celebration of Holy Eucharist as well as the Holy Days of the Church year. We are blessed to have a talented musician who plays with grace and skill. Under Mr. Stephen Sikorski's direction, the adult choir leads congregational singing as well as performing special choral arrangements on Sunday. The adult choir rehearses at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning in the Hurll Room.
